miraDry Procedure Details & Recovery
Your miraDry office visit will last approximately one hour. Your armpits will need to be shaved 1-2 days beforehand. They will be cleansed, and they may be marked to help guide your provider. Local anesthesia will be applied to the underarms prior to the treatment. Once the area is numb, your provider will apply a temporary tattoo to your underarms to help guide the handpiece. Lubrication will be applied to your skin, and then miraDry handheld device will be applied directly to the skin. This device will apply suction to the area in order to bring the sweat and odor glands up to the skin’s surface. Once this has happened, controlled thermal energy (heat) will be used to destroy the glands. Once the sweat and odor glands have been destroyed, they cannot return. There should be no pain, but we encourage you to let us know if you feel uncomfortable.
Most miraDry patients experience little to no downtime and are able to return to regular activities immediately — except for exercise, which can be typically resumed within several days. You may experience tenderness, numbness, bruising, bumps, and sensitivity in the underarm area for several days to a couple of weeks. Don’t be alarmed if you experience a lot of swelling. This is normal and can last 1-2 weeks. Some patients also experience short-term altered sensation on the skin of their underarms or upper arms. This gradually disappears.
